My top tips for tramping with a toddler
1 - take an extra pair of hands if possible (all that gear won't carry itself)
2 - check, check,
check the weather forecast
3 - take enough gear that if you ended up having to stay in the bush overnight
you would survive
4 - snack, snacks, snacks
5 - know your limits,
maybe leave those epic adventures until the babysitter is available or mini me is old enough to join in safely
6
- take a lekie pole (stick) or two, really helpful for clambering up and over those unexpected obstacles, streams or just
really slippery bits
7 - sing songs or tell a story, make it fun for all
8
- have some nice clean clothes, food and drink waiting for you at the car
My Gear List for a Bush Walk
- Carrier with hood - Raincoat for you and baby - Warm clothes for you and baby (including a warm
hat and polyprops for them) - Change of clothes for baby - I usually pack extra extra trousers as the nappies I
use tend to leak with extended carrier time, hopefully you won't have that problem! - Nappies if required - as many
as you think you'll need then add two - Wipes or toilet paper (I use my rain coat as a change mat if it's wet on
the ground, there is a benefit to having an umbrella if it's pouring for change times) - Sunhats - Sunscreen -
Snacks, enough for the walk then extra 'just in case' - Drink bottles - A plastic bag to put your dirty
nappies, wet clothes and other assorted rubbish in - A plastic bag to keep everything dry - Your camera -
A phone - Wallet/Spare money - Also a good idea depending on length is a whistle, survival blanket, head
lamp and first aid kit
